searchlight casting for faults in the clouds of delusion...

What a wonderful concert/evening/event- I feel so fortunate to have been there. Thanks to katrinka who alerted me to laughingwater's post re: her extras and BIG THANKS of course to laughingwater, without whom I would not have gotten in. Normally I might have taken my chances outside the show, but I didn't get there til 9:30 due to attending a school performance by my 6 yo daughter- missed the dinner and Planet Drum, but got there just in time for the Rythm Devils. Great spot at our mid-pit table.
Mickey started by dedicating the show to Rex Jackson. I wasn't making any effort to keep track of the setlist, and many of the songs were new to me and I have no idea what they are called, but after 3 or so of these new ones (which were all good- and everyone around me was most impressed with Jen Durkin, the lead singer), Bobby came out and played on another new one- then sang Cumberland and then New Speedway (I could have the order of those reversed) which was pretty epic despite a blown lyric by Bobby) and then there was a fine Good Lovin' with fine jamming that closed the set. Setbreak was fun getting to meet laughingwater and her hubby and Reisha and the other folks at the table, as well as old friends like Mark and Martha. Second set opened with a Scarlet>Fire (though rather any sort of transition jam the Scarlet ended and the the Fire began) with the Fire sung by Bobby and Jen, with several additional verses. Some more new ones (at least to me) leading into Drums ( by the way, Zakir was playing on Mickey's set-up with him for most of the second set), not much of a space that I recall but followed by a fine Other One with some great jamming between Steve and Bobby in particular, a definite highlite, another new tune (sorry for my cluelessness re: these) and then a rockin' Lovelight to close. Another one didn't know bidding us goodnite, without Bobby.
Very satisfying show and it was great to be back in the Warfield. Kimock was in excellent form, Mike Gordon was solid (I do wish he had sung one of his tunes),and of course, there was no shortage of fine percussion. Good jamming, good grooves. After the show I snagged a goodie bag that someone had left behind and also got to taste Chef's chocolates for the first time- Reisha turned me on (there were a few on the tables and she had saved one) and then I found a couple more inexplicably left behind on one of the tables. I consider myself a connoisseur of fine chocolate and now understand why Chef is a legend around here- Chef, you will be hearing from me! Wish katrinka had stuck around for me to meet her in the flesh, but she split pretty quickly. All my groovy fellow Santa Cruzans were well aglow after the show. THANKS Rhythm Devils and Rex Foundation...

On disc one of the first show (the one that ostensibly ends with the Cumberland), though, I don't think you finalized it or whatever because it blank.

I mean, it's blank. But you're not a cocksucker.

Wish I could've gone up there last night. This marriage and kids shit sucks. I think I'm gonna get a lawyer, end this crap, and just start going to shows while I can until these guys drop dead.

Yeah, the one with the Cumberland, I think disc one of the first show. But I'm not trying to bust your balls or anything, believe me.

Should've worked it out so I could've gone last night...
